Amit Shah Unveils Digital Health Pilot in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar witnessed a significant development in public health administration as Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the pilot project of the PM Family Care Tracker (PM-FCT) and Health Passport. In his address, Shah highlighted the project's potential to revolutionise welfare delivery through technology-driven transparency.

The PM Family Care Tracker is designed to consolidate data related to birth, death, health, nutrition, education, and social welfare onto a single digital platform. This integration is expected to simplify access to important personal records, thereby enhancing the efficiency of welfare programmes.

An Integrated Approach

This innovative platform will track a child’s developmental milestones from pregnancy until the age of 18. By linking to unique identifiers such as the Birth Registration Number or the ABHA ID, the system ensures a continuous record of the beneficiary's information. It aims to bridge various governmental data systems, including ICDS, Reproductive and Child Health (RCH), Poshan Abhiyaan, and school health programmes.

Shah stated, ‘This initiative marks a step towards a more organised and connected digital welfare system. By integrating disparate datasets, we are offering a more coherent approach to public health and education.’

Implications for Public Health

The pilot project, launched specifically for the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, serves as a testing ground for what could become a nationwide programme. The overarching goal is to ensure that no child slips through the cracks of the welfare net, with every milestone and health check recorded and accessible.

The implications of this project are vast. Not only does it promise to improve the delivery of health services, but it also sets the stage for a more data-driven approach to policy-making in health and education sectors. As the system matures, it could become a cornerstone in the government's strategy to harness digital technology for better governance.
