Kumaraswamy Calls for Unity Over Division in Mysuru Speech
In Mysuru, where the air is usually filled with the scent of sandalwood, former Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy chose instead to fill it with calls for political unity. Addressing a gathering, he urged political representatives to abandon the politics of hatred and division, advocating instead for a focus on public welfare. 'Let us not play with the sentiments of the people for political gain,' he implored, striking a chord with many in attendance.
His speech came during a two-day meeting of deputy commissioners and zilla panchayat executives, where Kumaraswamy underscored the importance of serving all communities. He expressed concern over the growing trend of leaders prioritising personal ambitions over the needs of the people, subtly jabbing at those he accused of acting as agents for higher political powers.
In a more direct critique, Kumaraswamy took aim at certain officials whom he alleged were eyeing gubernatorial positions, suggesting that their actions were driven by such aspirations. 'We must work with integrity and focus on the good of the people, not our own advancement,' he admonished.
His remarks come at a time of political flux in Karnataka, where the coalition between the JDS and Congress has been under scrutiny. Yet, both Kumaraswamy and his father, former Prime Minister H.D. Devegowda, maintain that the alliance remains strong.
