Minister Mandaviya and Actor Massey Champion Cycling for a Greener India
At the break of dawn, the iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium transformed into a vibrant hub of activity as a sea of cycling enthusiasts gathered to mark World Bicycle Day. Leading the charge was none other than Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, ably flanked by actor Vikrant Massey, who have both become prominent voices for sustainable transportation and healthier lifestyles.
The event, part of the special edition of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle campaign, saw thousands take to their bicycles under the theme 'Cycling for a Greener Future'. This theme resonates deeply in a time when climate change concerns are paramount. Massey, known for his socially conscious roles, echoed these sentiments as he addressed the crowd. 'Cycling not only transforms our health but also significantly reduces our carbon footprint,' he declared, urging participants to embrace cycling as a daily habit.
Since its inception by Mandaviya in December 2024, the cycling campaign has reached over 30 lakh individuals, catalysing a shift towards more sustainable modes of transport. The minister, known for his hands-on approach, was seen mingling with the crowd, embodying the spirit of the initiative.
While the event's scale was impressive, the message was clear: cycling is not merely a pastime but a potent tool against the pressing environmental challenges of our age. The gathering was a testament to the growing recognition of cycling's dual benefits for personal health and planetary well-being.
As the bicycles whirred along the tracks, participants of all ages revelled in the collective energy of the day, with Massey reminding them of the importance of encouraging younger generations to reduce screen time in favour of outdoor activities.
This year’s celebrations have undoubtedly set a benchmark for future editions, demonstrating the power of public figures like Mandaviya and Massey to inspire change. As the echoes of the day's events fade, the hope is that the pedals of these bicycles continue to turn, propelling India towards a greener, healthier future.
