Nara Lokesh Aims for Social Change Through Education Reforms
Nara Lokesh, Andhra Pradesh's Minister for Education, is not one to shy away from a challenge. Speaking at the inauguration of new buildings at the Zilla Parishad High School, Lokesh emphasised the critical role teachers play in elevating learning outcomes.
"We must equip our young minds not just with knowledge, but with the power to innovate and drive change," Lokesh stated, his voice tinged with resolve. This unwavering commitment to education is reflected in the newly unveiled 'Andhra Model of Education.' The model aims for nothing less than 100% school enrolment and a sweeping enhancement in learning across government schools.
The HRD Minister’s approach is refreshingly pragmatic. While some might be tempted by flashy educational models, Lokesh insists on substance over style. He announced the introduction of the LEAP App, a digital tool designed to support both students and teachers in achieving higher academic standards. Parent-teacher meetings, scheduled for mid-July, are set to foster a collaborative environment between home and school.
Lokesh’s reforms come at a critical time. Education in India often faces challenges of access and quality, particularly in rural areas. By focusing on improving infrastructure and engaging communities, Lokesh believes these barriers can be overcome. The extension of the midday meal scheme to government junior colleges is one such initiative, ensuring that students are well-nourished and ready to learn.
