President Murmu Advocates Scientific Synergy in Ayurveda
In an era where ancient traditions meet modern science, President Droupadi Murmu has called for the integration of scientific methodologies with traditional Ayurvedic practices. Speaking at the Saushrutam 2026 seminar, an event that brought together experts in both fields, President Murmu underscored the necessity of marrying the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda with contemporary scientific research to enhance its efficacy and reach.
The seminar, organised by the Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach, highlighted the potential for modern science to amplify the benefits of Ayurveda. This initiative aims to not only preserve but also innovate within this age-old medical system. By fostering biodiversity and encouraging women's participation, the event sought to address the challenges and opportunities in expanding Ayurveda's global footprint.
Blending Tradition with Innovation
President Murmu's remarks come at a time when Ayurveda is increasingly being recognised on the world stage. India's rich biodiversity offers a treasure trove for Ayurvedic formulations, yet the need for scientific validation remains critical. "We must ensure that the rich legacy of Ayurveda is not just preserved but allowed to evolve alongside advancements in science," Murmu stated, urging researchers to delve deeper into the integration of technology with traditional practices.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a separate address at the Arya Vaidya Sala's centenary, also echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of technology in promoting Ayush globally. He praised Kerala's role in maintaining Ayurvedic traditions while embracing modern techniques.
The Road Ahead
As India positions itself as a leader in the field of traditional medicine, the emphasis on scientific research and technological innovation is crucial. The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) continues to play a pivotal role in this endeavour, and recent advertisements for the position of Director General underscore the commitment to advancing Ayurvedic research.
Looking ahead, the challenge will be to balance tradition with innovation, ensuring that the essence of Ayurveda is preserved while embracing the benefits of modern science. The path forward promises a synergy that could redefine health and wellness for generations to come.
