Raksha Khadse Champions Sports Development in Meghalaya

In the verdant hills of Meghalaya, Union Minister Raksha Khadse recently convened with state officials to scrutinise sports and youth development initiatives. This meeting, attended by Meghalaya's Minister of Sports, Shri Wailadmiki Shylla, and Dr Vijay Kumar D, Commissioner and Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, comes at a time when the state is poised to host future National Games.

The prospects of the Umshawli Sports Complex and the water sports slalom course in Umtham were central to the discussions. Khadse expressed optimism that these facilities could become pivotal centres for training athletes in India, especially in the domain of water sports. Such developments are not merely about infrastructure but are part of a broader strategy to inspire the youth and foster a culture of discipline and resilience.

Meghalaya, with its unique geographical and cultural landscape, offers a fertile ground for sports development. The state's commitment to nurturing talent aligns with the Union government's larger vision encapsulated in initiatives like Khelo India. Khadse emphasised the transformative role sports can play, not just in building character but in fostering national unity and progress.

During her visit to Williamnagar in the East Garo Hills district, under the Poorvottar Sampark Setu initiative, Khadse underscored the need for robust sports infrastructure. She encouraged local athletes to strive for excellence, assuring them of the government's steadfast support.

The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to reinforce Meghalaya's sports capabilities, setting a precedent for other states. As the nation looks forward to the upcoming National Games, the developments in Meghalaya are a testament to the potential of sports to drive societal change.
