Tamil Nadu Minister Cracks Down on College Admission Irregularities
Tamil Nadu's Higher Education Minister, P Viswanathan, has issued a stern directive to ensure that the college admissions process remains free from irregularities. Addressing concerns about past discrepancies, the minister emphasised the need for a transparent and student-friendly system that caters to all aspiring students, particularly those from rural backgrounds.
At a review meeting held at the Directorate of Higher Education in Saidapet, Chennai, Viswanathan outlined his vision for the 2026-2027 academic admissions. He stressed the importance of streamlining procedures to ensure that no deserving student is left behind due to bureaucratic hurdles or lack of information.
Viswanathan's call comes against a backdrop of past irregularities that have marred the admissions process in government Arts and Science colleges across the state. In response, the minister has called for the introduction of new courses, including those focusing on Artificial Intelligence, to better equip students for a rapidly changing job market.
