Andhra Pradesh Launches Task Force for Godavari's Protection

In a bid to preserve its sanctity ahead of the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu, the state government has established a high-level Environment Protection Task Force (EPTF) tasked with curbing pollution.
As one of India’s longest rivers, the Godavari not only sustains agricultural and daily life but also serves as a spiritual centrepiece during the Pushkaralu, an event held once every 12 years. Millions of devotees are expected to partake in the ritualistic baths, underscoring the urgent need for a cleaner river.

The task force is mandated to tackle both industrial waste and sewage discharge, the primary culprits behind the river's contamination. Regular inspections and enforcement of environmental regulations are to be prioritised, with reviews scheduled every 15 days to monitor progress.
