Bihar's Ecotourism Vision Unveiled at Investors Meet
In a significant stride towards sustainable tourism, Bihar's Environment Minister, Ram Chandra Prasad, inaugurated the much-anticipated Ecotourism Investors Meet-2026 on Monday. This event, held in the heart of Patna, marks a pivotal moment for the state as it seeks to entice private investors to partake in its burgeoning ecotourism sector.
The meet is part of an ambitious plan by the Bihar Environment, Forest & Climate Change Department to develop ecotourism infrastructure across 29 reservoirs and 247 water bodies. By leveraging a public-private partnership (PPP) model, the initiative aims to construct eco-friendly lodging and dining facilities, such as the newly unveiled Eco-Cottages and Glass House Restaurant at Mawrah Lake.
A New Chapter for Bihar's Tourism
At the core of this initiative is the desire to create a sustainable tourism model that not only attracts visitors but also benefits local communities. The Chief Minister, who inspected the new developments at Mawrah Lake, emphasised the potential for these projects to provide sustainable livelihoods, ensuring that economic benefits are felt locally.
Private investment is crucial in this endeavour, with the state offering Viability Gap Funding (VGF) to make projects more appealing to investors. The minister's invitation to private entities underscores a commitment to fostering an environment where biodiversity conservation and economic development go hand in hand.
Challenges and Opportunities
While the prospects are promising, challenges remain. The balance between development and conservation is delicate, requiring meticulous planning and community involvement. Nevertheless, the enthusiasm surrounding the meet indicates a strong interest in developing Bihar's ecotourism potential.
As the state embarks on this journey, the hope is that Bihar will not only emerge as a key player in India's ecotourism landscape but also set a precedent for integrating environmental sustainability with economic growth.
