Divisional Commissioner Tackles Srinagar Airfield Safety Challenges
In a bid to address the multifaceted challenges of airfield safety, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg convened a pivotal meeting at the Air Force Station in Srinagar. The gathering, attended by senior officials and stakeholders, aimed to tackle the pressing environmental issues that pose risks to aviation safety in the region.
The agenda was dominated by discussions on visibility concerns, bird strikes, and the perennial issue of stray dogs. Garg emphasised the need for a robust strategy to manage these risks, particularly focusing on the regulation of carcass disposal, which has been identified as a key factor in attracting birds to the vicinity of the airfield.
Bird hazards, a significant threat to aircraft during takeoff and landing, demand immediate attention. The committee deliberated on various measures to keep the avian population in check, such as improved waste management practices and the use of bird deterrents. Garg called for a coordinated approach involving both civil and military authorities to enforce these measures effectively.
Visibility, often compromised by adverse weather conditions in the region, was another focal point of the meeting. Garg underscored the importance of state-of-the-art technology to enhance visibility and reduce the risk of accidents.
