Education Ministry Defends On-Screen Marking Amidst CBSE Row
In a staunch defence of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, the Education Ministry has addressed concerns surrounding the recent CBSE Class 12 results. While students and parents alike have expressed their dismay over alleged errors in the marking process, the Ministry insists that this digital approach is not only transparent but also internationally recognised.
Education Secretary, addressing the media on Sunday, admitted to some initial errors but assured that these were swiftly rectified. 'The totalling error, if any, was eliminated promptly,' he remarked, emphasising that the OSM system is designed to prevent such issues. The system, officials say, underwent a dry run in five schools earlier this year to iron out potential hitches.
Addressing Grievances
In response to the uproar, the Ministry has reduced the charges for revaluation and answer sheet verification to a mere ₹100. This move aims to facilitate students seeking clarity on their marks without imposing a financial burden. 'We understand the importance of transparency,' an official stated, 'and this reduction is part of our commitment to fairness.'
Despite the challenges, the Ministry remains resolute that On-Screen Marking is the way forward. As classrooms become increasingly digital, such systems are seen as necessary evolutions. However, the recent hiccup has clearly underscored the need for more rigorous testing and training.
Lessons Learned
Critics have pointed out the discrepancies in regional results, suggesting a lack of uniformity in evaluation standards. Yet, the Ministry maintains that these differences are not indicative of a systemic issue but rather isolated incidents. The hope is that lessons learned from this year's exams will inform better practices in the future.
As students continue to navigate the implications of these results, the Ministry's actions reflect a broader trend towards embracing digital solutions in education. The true test, however, will be in how these systems are refined and implemented moving forward.
