Goa's Ambitious Digital Leap: Technology for All, Says Shirgaonkar

In the lush coastal state of Goa, technology is taking root in an ambitious bid to make every citizen a part of the digital revolution. At the helm of this transformative journey is Kabir K. Shirgaonkar, Director of Information and Technology, who believes that the state's future is inextricably linked to its digital prowess.

During a recent address, Shirgaonkar outlined Goa's strategy for digital inclusion, which draws inspiration from the Centre's India AI Mission. "We are not just adopting technology; we are embedding it into the very fabric of our society," he said, emphasising the state's commitment to AI-led governance and enhanced cybersecurity measures.

Building a Digital Ecosystem

The focal point of Goa's digital strategy is to create an enabling ecosystem. This includes the establishment of an Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) and the provision of startup grants and co-working hubs. "It's about turning potential into partnerships," Shirgaonkar noted, highlighting the state's efforts to foster collaboration between various stakeholders.

Furthermore, the state's digital backbone is being fortified through upgraded statewide networks, ensuring that even the remotest corners have access to reliable internet services. This infrastructure is crucial for the delivery of citizen-centric services, which aim to simplify and streamline interactions between the government and its people.

Security and Inclusivity

As Goa embarks on its digital journey, security remains a top priority. Enhanced cybersecurity protocols are being introduced to safeguard sensitive information and protect citizens from potential threats. "Our goal is to create a safe digital environment where citizens feel secure to engage and transact," Shirgaonkar assured.

The broader aim, however, is inclusivity. By ensuring that technology reaches every citizen, Goa seeks to bridge the digital divide and empower its populace with the tools needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.

As the state moves forward, it serves as a beacon for other regions aspiring to harness technology for societal growth. Goa's digital transformation is not merely a policy initiative but a testament to the power of technology to transform lives.
