Goa's Digital Vision: Technology for Every Citizen
"Technology should be like air, accessible to all and essential for life," quips Kabir K. Shirgaonkar, Director of the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (DITE&C) in Goa. As the sun sets over the Arabian Sea, Shirgaonkar is setting his sights on a digital dawn for the state, one that promises to leave no citizen behind.
At the heart of this transformation is the Goa AI Mission 2027, a visionary initiative aimed at integrating artificial intelligence into various facets of governance. Shirgaonkar envisions a future where technology is not a barrier but a bridge, connecting citizens to the services they need. "We are not just implementing technology for technology's sake," he asserts. "Our goal is to create a seamless, inclusive digital ecosystem that benefits every Goan."
Embracing Multilingualism
A key component of Goa's digital strategy is its focus on multilingual AI solutions. In a state known for its linguistic diversity, making technology accessible in multiple languages is not just a perk but a necessity. "We are committed to ensuring that all citizens, regardless of their linguistic background, can engage with digital services," says Shirgaonkar.
The recent launch of Goa’s Digital Assistant, an AI-powered chatbot, marks a significant step in this direction. Designed to assist users on the Goa Online portal, the chatbot is currently in its beta phase but promises to revolutionise how citizens interact with government services.
Collaboration and Innovation
Goa's digital journey is not a solitary one. Strategic collaborations with entities like Goa Electronics Limited have been pivotal. Together, they are crafting solutions that are not only technologically advanced but also tailored to the unique needs of Goa's populace. "Innovation thrives on collaboration," Shirgaonkar notes. "By working with partners who share our vision, we can create solutions that are both innovative and practical."
As Goa continues its digital push, the emphasis remains on inclusivity, efficiency, and innovation. With plans to further integrate AI and other technologies into public systems, the state aims to be a model for others to follow. Shirgaonkar's vision is clear: a Goa where technology is as pervasive as it is transformative, ensuring that every citizen reaps its benefits.
