India Leads Dialogue on Livestock Tech at BRICS 2026
With India at the helm of the BRICS Chairship in 2026, the nation is steering the bloc towards a future where technology redefines agriculture. On 1 June, India hosted a pivotal dialogue on Advanced Livestock Technology and Feed Systems (ALT&FS) from the heart of Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi. This virtual assembly brought together ministers, experts, and industry leaders from the BRICS nations, aiming to revolutionise livestock management and bolster food security.
The dialogue forms part of India’s broader strategy to infuse innovation within the BRICS framework, as articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Modi had pledged to give BRICS a 'new form' during India's presidency, and this initiative is a testament to that vision.
Livestock technology has emerged as a critical area of focus, given the growing global demand for protein-rich diets and sustainable farming practices. By integrating cutting-edge technologies such as precision feeding, genetic enhancements, and digital health monitoring, the BRICS nations aim to increase productivity while minimising environmental impact.
India's commitment to leading this charge is underscored by its ongoing efforts to host significant agricultural dialogues. Indore is set to play host this June to another high-level discussion on global food systems, further cementing India's role as a crucial player in shaping the future of agriculture.
Yet, the challenges are manifold. Regional disparities, resource constraints, and varying levels of technological adoption across BRICS countries present hurdles that require collaborative solutions. The ALT&FS dialogue seeks to address these issues by promoting knowledge exchange and fostering partnerships.
The Road Ahead
As the BRICS nations navigate these complex terrains, India's leadership could prove pivotal. By championing advanced technologies and sustainable practices, the bloc can potentially transform not only its agricultural sectors but also contribute significantly to global food security. The dialogue at Krishi Bhawan may very well mark the beginning of a new era where innovation meets tradition, leading to a more resilient and sustainable agricultural future for all BRICS members.
