India's Environmental Challenges: EPI Ranking Highlights Urgent Concerns
India's environmental standing took another hit this year as it was ranked 176th out of 180 countries in the 2024 Environmental Performance Index (EPI). This troubling position, though a slight improvement from its last-place finish in 2022, highlights persistent and pressing concerns about the nation's environmental health and sustainability practices.
The EPI, which evaluates countries on parameters like air quality, emissions, and biodiversity, has flagged India's performance in these areas as particularly worrisome.
