PM Modi Honoured as 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon' in Seychelles
In a gesture that underscores the deepening ties between India and Seychelles, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been bestowed with the 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon', the highest environmental honour of the island nation. The award, conferred by Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan, recognises Modi's leadership in conservation and sustainable development initiatives.
During his three-day visit, Modi addressed the National Assembly of Seychelles, emphasising the shared commitment to environmental stewardship. Earlier, he was greeted with a ceremonial guard of honour at the State House, marking a significant moment in the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon' award is not merely a ceremonial accolade. It reflects Seychelles' appreciation of India's support in maritime security and environmental conservation, both critical to the island nation's future. Modi's previous recognition by the United Nations as a 'Champion of the Earth' in 2018 underlines his ongoing commitment to global environmental issues.
Modi's visit coincides with Seychelles' Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations, where he served as the Guest of Honour. The event provided an opportunity for both nations to reaffirm their partnership in areas like climate change, renewable energy, and blue economy initiatives.
This honour comes at a time when the world grapples with environmental challenges. Seychelles, an archipelago vulnerable to climate change, sees India's partnership as vital in navigating these challenges. Modi's receipt of this award is a testament to the collaborative efforts required to safeguard our planet's future.
