Students Propel Innovation in ROADS Challenge to Venus
In a display of youthful ingenuity, the Northwest Earth and Space Science Pathways (NESSP) Project celebrated its students' achievements in the ROADS from Earth to Venus National Challenge. The event, which recently concluded its 2025-2026 edition, saw teams from around the country tackle a series of intricate missions that mirrored genuine NASA projects. These missions required not only scientific acumen but also a flair for teamwork and communication.
Over the course of the academic year, students engaged in eight Mission Objectives. Each task was meticulously documented in Mission Development Logs, while mission patches were designed to add a personal touch to their endeavours. The challenge emphasised the critical role of innovative thinking in overcoming the hurdles presented by space exploration.

The ROADS challenge is designed to evolve annually, each year addressing new scientific and engineering conundrums. This year's focus on Venus offered students a unique opportunity to explore one of the solar system's most enigmatic planets. The tasks set before them included designing landers, analysing atmospheric data, and crafting communication systems capable of withstanding Venus's hostile conditions.
