NITI Aayog's New Focus on Science and Health: A Strategic Shift

This development comes as three out of the five new members boast distinguished careers in health, biotechnology, and science, underscoring a deliberate push to integrate scientific expertise into national policy frameworks.
Dr M. Srinivas, the current Director of AIIMS Delhi, is poised to join the Aayog, stepping into the shoes of Dr V.K. Paul. This appointment not only marks a significant personnel shift but also reflects the institution's commitment to prioritising health at the national policy level. AIIMS, meanwhile, will soon see an interim director taking charge as Srinivas transitions to his new role.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved this revised composition, with Suman K Bery re-appointed as Vice Chairperson. The inclusion of Gobardhan Das, an expert in biotechnology, further signals the Aayog's intention to harness scientific insights for transformative policy-making. Dr Ashok Lahiri's appointment as Vice Chairperson adds further weight to this strategic shift.
