Thames Water Harnesses AI to Tackle Leak Crisis in Swindon
Amidst growing concerns over water wastage in the UK, Thames Water has embraced cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology to detect leaks across its network in Swindon. The AI initiative utilises satellite data to identify leaks with remarkable speed and accuracy. John Marsden, co-founder of Origin Tech, claims that the technology is 'at least five times quicker' than traditional methods employed by human inspectors. In a previous trial, AI technology successfully identified 800 leaks, underscoring its potential to revolutionise leak detection.

Thames Water's efforts are crucial, given that the company loses around 100 million litres of water every day due to undetected leaks. This not only impacts the environment but also dents consumer trust, as highlighted by the recent survey from the Consumer Council.
By integrating AI into their infrastructure, Thames Water intends to expedite repairs and minimise water wastage. The deployment of this technology is part of a £139.8 million investment, aimed at upgrading data logging and leak detection systems across the network.
